Bremen/Nuremberg, April 2023

Vacation at last - once the destination is reached, relaxation is often still a long way off: a long line at hotel check-in, the time-consuming manual recording of personal data by staff and the constant carrying of the door key, which travelers have to return in person at check-out. The Nuremberg-based technology company HelloGuest is eliminating these costly and time-consuming processes and replacing them with lean digital processes - and is relying on AusweisIDent®, a solution from D-Trust and Governikus for the legally compliant digital registration certificate process.

With the amendment of the registration law coming into force, hotels are allowed to electronically record guests' registration data. In order to make the advantages of the change in the law a reality for hotels and their guests, HelloGuest offers the check-in app of the same name, in which guests can easily complete the digital check-in process while on the move and already receive their room key on their smartphone. In the app, guests have the option of using "AusweisIDent Online" in addition to manually entering their ID card data. After entering the ID card PIN, the data is captured securely and error-free from the ID card, electronic residence permit or EU citizen card and transferred to the hotel. Guests and hotels save time during data entry and at the same time prevent possible sources of error during data transfer to the hotel system. This means that guests can use their mobile key to enter their hotel room and check out again digitally, regardless of reception opening times.

If a guest does not know his or her PIN or prefers personal service, the advantages of IDent also come into play here: Thanks to "IDent on-site", the reception staff can read out the ID data electronically and transfer it to the hotel system in a time-saving and error-free manner. In both cases, HelloGuest's app solutions slim down the time and personnel required on the part of the hotel and thus meet the staff shortage in the hotel industry, which has been exacerbated by the Corona pandemic.

"From the very beginning, HelloGuest's goal was to support hosts in the digital guest journey and, above all, to offer them relief in the reporting form process. Through the cooperation with D-Trust and Governikus, the handling of the legally compliant digital registration certificate process can be ensured even faster and incorrect guest records are a thing of the past," says Marc Frauenholz, CEO of HelloGuest Solutions GmbH. "AusweisIDent represents by far the most convenient and easiest product for capturing ID card data for guests and hosts. Guests benefit from a fast identification process - from the comfort of their sofa, while hosts can save time and personnel resources," adds Hartje Bruns, responsible Director Products of the "Secure Identities" division at Governikus.

As part of the ONCE research project, both scenarios are to be tested for check-in with participating hotels. The eID showcase project ONCE (ONline einfaCh anmeldEn), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, is concerned with simplifying access to digital administrative services and services on the Internet in three application worlds: "Municipality and Administration," "Mobility and Transport," and "Hotel and Tourism. Governikus and HelloGuest are two of the approximately 40 companies working together to build a comprehensive ID system. Bundesdruckerei GmbH has assumed consortium leadership of the project, as has D-Trust, a company of the Bundesdruckerei Group.
