To authenticate your PGP key, you will need your ID card or electronic residence permit with activated online ID function, a card reader or an NFC-enabled end device and the AusweisApp.
After your ID card or electronic residence permit has been read, your public key is verified and signed.
To keep the potential for misuse low, an electronic signature without trust level is applied. You will then receive the signed PGP key matching your selected user ID in your e-mail inbox.
You can use a PGP key to encrypt or sign messages and files. By authenticating your key, the sender of an encrypted message to you or the recipient of a message you sign can be sure that they are communicating with you and not a third party.
With the online ID function, you can easily authenticate your public PGP key. All you need is your online ID card, the federal AusweisApp and a suitable card reader or NFC-enabled smartphone.
You can easily authenticate your PGP public key from home. With the online credential function, this process takes only a few minutes. The service is provided by Governikus on behalf of the German Federal Office for Information Security.
Governikus authenticates your PGP key by signing it with the key of the Governikus signature service. This is possible at: https://pgp.governikus.de
