After professorships in Berlin and Konstanz, Jörg Bogumil has held a chair for Public Administration, Urban and Regional Policy at the Ruhr University Bochum since 2005. The political and administrative scientist has been conducting research in the field of public sector modernization for about 30 years. He has conducted numerous empirical research projects on the implementation status and effects of economization and participation trends on public administrations (e.g., Bürgerkommune, evaluation of the New Control Model and Doppik at the municipal level, modernization of the environmental administrations of the German states, administrative structural reforms in the German states). Other research focuses include the modernization of universities, inter-municipal cooperation, municipal finance, migration administration and the digitalization of the public sector.
