Patrick Burghardt has been State Secretary for Digital Strategy and Development, Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Plenipotentiary for E-Government and Information Technology of the State of Hesse since January 18, 2019. The State Secretary is responsible for steering the overall IT strategy of the State of Hesse as well as representing the State of Hesse in cross-administrative IT bodies such as the IT Planning Council. In 2023, he will be chairman of the IT Planning Council.

Previously, Patrick Burghardt was State Secretary in the Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts. He served as Lord Mayor of the city of Rüsselsheim am Main from 2012 to 2017. From 2016 to 2017, he was President of the Hessian Association of Cities. From 2009 to 2011, Patrick Burghardt was a directly elected member of the Hessian State Parliament.
The State Secretary trained as a freight forwarder and worked in this profession in an international freight forwarding company from 2004 to 2009.
Patrick Burghardt was born on December 1, 1980 in Rüsselsheim am Main, is married and has two children.
