Bremen, November 2024

  • Governikus celebrates 25 years as an IT security expert
  • "Shaping the future together" is the motto of the "Governikus Summit" conference with accompanying exhibition and evening event on February 25 and 26, 2025 in Berlin

Bremen-based IT security expert Governikus is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Since it was founded in 1999, the company has been working to drive forward the digitalization of Germany in the areas of secure identities, communication infrastructures and solutions as well as data integrity. At the Governikus Summit on February 25 and 26, 2025, the motto is "Shaping the future together" - the recipe for success in the company's 25-year history from the perspective of Bremen's IT security experts. Governikus will discuss current challenges and future solutions with stakeholders from politics, administration, justice, science and the IT industry.

What emerged on November 16, 1999 as the winner of a city competition organized by the German government has developed into a pioneer for IT security in administration. "Today, Governikus employs over 300 people at five locations across Germany and has had a subsidiary, Governikus ITU, since this year. The protection of personal data and informational self-determination have been essential cornerstones of our IT solutions from the very beginning and, in our view, are more important than ever today," says Managing Director from the very beginning Dr. Stephan Klein. The fact that IT security solutions for handling high-quality digital identities, secure data transport and secure data per se are important topics for the future is also demonstrated by Governikus' growing customer base. "Governikus solutions that we have developed with and for our stakeholders in e-government are now also widely accepted by customers and partners in the fields of e-justice, e-health and e-finance, as well as in waste management via the ITU," adds Klein. At the Governikus Summit, the Bremen-based company would like to thank the pioneers from politics and administration as well as customers and partners for their cooperation and loyalty during the evening event. Digital state needs all players to join forces

"Quo vadis, administration?" is the question to which there has been no real answer - at least until now. Without a target vision, it is difficult to bring together the many projects and digitalization plans and not run the risk of the building blocks not fitting together in the end. This was also recently highlighted by the German Regulatory Control Council in its annual report: The big picture is needed to drive forward the biggest digitization projects since the Federal Republic of Germany was founded, such as the modernization of registers and the implementation of the Online Access Act. The standardization board set up by IT Planning Council also shows that we should focus more on standards. Since the eIDAS Regulation came into force ten years ago at the latest, it has been clear to everyone involved that we cannot view Germany in isolation. The fact that the joint European efforts relating to the EUDI wallet were already underway before the amendment shows how essential the topic is and will continue to be in the context of register modernization.

"We want to talk about this and much more at the Governikus Summit," explains Governikus authorized signatory Petra Waldmüller-Schantz. "We are delighted to be welcoming top-class guests once again." In various panels and podium formats, Governikus employees will speak with, among others, Dorothea Störr-Ritter, Member of the Bundestag Anke Domscheid-Berg, Dr. Volker Redder and Dr. Markus Reichel as well as IT Planning Council members StS Ina Maria Ulbrich, StS Bernd Schlömer and State Councillor Dr. Martin Hagen and many other stakeholders. Customers and partners will also be presenting best practice solutions. The full program is expected to be announced at the beginning of December.

In addition to Governikus' own information stands, partners such as Ceyoniq Technology GmbH, Bank-Verlag GmbH, PDV GmbH, brain-SCC GmbH, MACH ProForms GmbH, secunet Security Networks AG, bol Behörden Online Systemhaus GmbH, EITCO GmbH, d.velop AG as well as associations and cooperatives such as DATABUND, govdigital eG, Deutschland sicher im Netz e.V. (DSiN) / Politiker*innen sicher im Netz e.V. (PolisiN) and buergerservice.org e.V. on current topics and solutions in the extensive accompanying exhibition.

Ticket sales are open. To mark the anniversary, Governikus is extending the early bird discount until 25.11.2024. You also have the chance to win one of three free tickets for the summit, including the evening event. Click here to enter the competition.
