OSCI Whitepaper

The foundation of digital administration in Germany

OSCI Whitepaper

The standard for secure communication with public authorities in Germany has been called OSCI - Online Services Computer Interface - for more than 20 years. Every year, an estimated two billion messages are transmitted using OSCI. The areas of application are numerous and varied: they range from use in the registration system to the judiciary and the registration of hazardous goods transports in waste management. Wherever institutions need to transmit confidential data securely, OSCI is the transmission standard of choice.

The white paper provides an insight into the history of OSCI and the "double envelope principle" as the basis of the secure transport standard. Some use cases are also shown.
